Until now, there were no products on the market, which were tested and certified to prevent gases or fluids under continuous pressure from migrating through the electrical system. (note: EYS/EYD etc type conduit seals are for hazardous gases under atmospheric pressure) Cooper Crouse Hinds has now invented the first, CSA approved, field installed, pressure rated process seal which stops both gases and liquids, under pressure, from migrating through conduit and individual conductors.

We have developed 2 types of pressure rated process seals; a low pressure process seal for applications up to 40 psi, which is a common pressure where gases are stored, and a high pressure process seal for applications where gases or liquids are transported up to 500 psi. These field installed seals perform 2 very important functions.

• They vent the high pressure gases or liquids to the hazardous location where they can be safely handled

• Under worse case conditions, the seals prevent the gases or liquids from migrating through the cable or conduit system to an unclassified area.

Inside of the seal is a vent tube surrounded by Chico SpeedSeal compound. The SpeedSeal prevents the gas from traveling down the conduit; instead forcing it out through an explosion proof drain at the end of the vent tube. The seal kit also includes special solder sleeve connectors which will seal stranded conductors. The entire kit comes with an instructional video and can be field installed in less than 30 minutes.

These specialized, field installed seals can be used in compressor gas plants, refineries, compressor stations, LNG facilities, chemical plants or other process areas where gases or liquids are stored, processed or transported under pressure. The secondary process seal from Cooper Crouse-Hinds is an excellent way to prevent volatile gases under continuous pressure from reaching non-classified locations.
